LATE GOAL EARNS WESTFIELDS A POINT

SUPER-SUB ARCHIE NETS ON HIS DEBUT

Westfields came back late in injury time on Saturday to earn a 2-2 draw with visiting Worcester Raiders at allpay.park.

Westfields once again had to reverse the fixture as Worcester Raiders were without a home ground but in an entertaining game from end-to-end Westfields snatched a late equaliser deep into injury time when super-sub Archie Muirhead came off the bench to net a cracking goal on his debut.

Earlier, Westfields had taken a first-half lead when dangerman Dan Stoneman fired home a 15th minute shot into the top corner of the net after a mazy run and then it took some stout defending by the Westfields rear guard to keep out a lively Worcester Raiders attack.

However, immediately after the break Worcester Raiders pulled level with a headed goal from Jordan Murphy and then it was Murphy who put Worcester Raiders ahead with just 10 minutes left on the clock.

Westfields then introduced new signing Archie Muirhead, who recently joined the club from Worcester City, and he made an immediate impact with young fellow substitute Jack Gittoes as they began to open up the Worcester defence.

In fact after Muirhead had gone close with an earlier effort he was on the spot deep into injury time after Gittoes had chased a long through ball and rounded the home keeper but as the ball spilled free Muirhead was on the spot to fire home from 12yds to give Westfields a valuable home point.

Raiders were totally shocked by the late equaliser following their unbeaten league start but it was Westfields who pulled the late goal back to secure a point after a disappointing defeat at Pegasus Juniors and previously against visiting Malvern Town.

Westfields now play at home to Brimscombe & Thrupp on Tuesday night, kick-off 7.45pm, and then on Saturday they visit, for the first time, Mangotsfield Town in Bristol.
