WESTFIELDS SUFFER FA CUP HEARTBREAK
Westfields and Worcester City served up an exciting end to end FA Cup Tie at Allpay Park on Saturday, but it was the visitors, Worcester City, who grabbed the glory with an injury time cracker to put them through into the First Round Qualifying of the FA Cup.
Westfields and Worcester City had gone toe-to-toe in the 90 minutes, when a replay looked on the cards and up stepped substitute, Kirk Layton, and fired home a tremendous shot into the top corner of the net form 20 yards to give the visitors a cup victory at Allpay Park in front of 349 spectators.
Westfields had led at the break, when Joel Edwards put them ahead with a header in the fortieth minute and then on 2 occasions before the interval, Westfields had chances to increase the lead but shots from Harrison Summers and Dan Stoneman both were saved on the line by Worcester defenders.
After the break, the visitors came more into the game and drew level in the fifty-fourth minute through Dylan Hart with a looping header over Jack Oxendale and then both sides went all out for a winner, and Harrison Summers and Dan Stoneman were both affective on the wings and Summers had a brilliant shot tipped over the bar by the Worcester keeper.
However, with the minutes ticking away and a replay looking on the cards, Worcester substitute, Kirk Layton fired homed a dramatic injury time winner with a shot from just outside the penalty area, which gave Oxendale no chance as it flew into the top corner to give Worcester City a dramatic winner.
Westfields now have to travel to Worcester City on Tuesday night to paly a Hellenic League Premier Division game, kick off 7:45pm and next Saturday Westfields travel in the FA Vase to Nuneaton Griff for a First Round Tie. On August Bank Holiday Monday afternoon, kick off 3:00pm at Allpay Park, Westfields entertain near neighbours Hereford Lads Club in a Hellenic League local derby, kick off 3:00pm.
