Recap

Westfields 1 – Stoneman

Worcester City 4 – Belmonte, Hartley, Sheehan, Lockett

Westfields welcomed Hellenic League leaders Worcester City to allpay.park on Saturday before a bumper crowd of 487 and the league leaders ran out 4-1 winners to extend their unbeaten away league record.

Westfields had beaten city 2-1 At Worcester in August to be the only Hellenic league to defeat them in a league fixture and it looked to be heading for a Westfields league double when Westfields surprised the visitors when Dan Stoneman fired Scott Russell’s team ahead from an Archie Muirhead cross with only 3 minutes on the clock.

Westfields had Worcester in trouble and the City keeper made a fine save to keep out a rising shot from Oli Barnes then Archie Muirhead hit a shot just over the bar from 12 yard.

Westfields best chance to increase their lead came on half an hour when overlapping fullback George Clarke burst through the Worcester defence but his shot beat the City keeper but went inches wide of the far post.

Worcester then got their life line when Referee James Lewis awarded Worcester a disputed penalty after Westfields skipper Kane Kahaki had brought down the visitors striker and Kyle Belmonte levelled the scores from the spot just before half time.

After the break Worcester showed their class with an immediate response to the second half when Elliott Hartley completed a fine solo goal in only the 47th minute then shortly afterwards Worcester City increased their narrow lead with a header from Lorca Sheehan.

Westfields were under pressure to contain the league leaders as they laid siege on the Westfields goal and Keiron Blackburn in the Westfields goal saved well at point blank range then Kane Kahaki got in two vital clearances as Worcester pressed for a fourth goal.

Worcester persistence paid off when late in the game Liam Locket beat the Westfields offside trap to complete the score line with a 4th goal for the league leaders as they run out comfortable winners with a devastating second half display.

Westfields now meet Worcester City again on Tuesday in the Quarter final of the league Cup then on Saturday travel to Tuffley Rovers for a Hellenic League Premier Division game.
