Recap

Westfields 2 – Hunt, Cox

Tuffley Rovers 1 – Chambers

Westfields returned to Allpay.park and gained an important Hellenic League Premier Division win when they edged out visiting Tuffley Rovers 2-1 with a hard working non stop performance.

Westfields, who had won 2-0 away at Lydney in the previous outing, were keen to impress their home supporters and did so with an excellent first half performance in which Sam Hunt put them ahead with a long range effort in the 25th minute then 3 minutes  later Cawley Cox fired Westfields into a 2-0 lead with a blistering shot into the roof of the net.

After the break Tuffley came more into the game and although Westfields had a number of guilt edged chances to increase their lead it was the visitors who got the next vital goal, Dion Molyneux, on loan from Malvern Town, lost possession in midfield and Tuffley broke away and punished Westfields’ mistake when Karnell Chambers beat Shay Sterry with a clinical finish to set up an exciting last 25 minutes.

Tuffley were denied an equaliser when Sterry went full at the foot of the post to hold a low drive then at the other end Cawley Cox nearly added to his tally but he fired wide of the post.

Westfields deserved their narrow 2-1 win from a hard working non stop performance and now travel to Fairford Town on Saturday for an Away Hellenic League Game.
