Tuffley Rovers 1 – Lander
WESTFIELDS BEATEN BY BASEMENT TEAM
Westfields were surprisingly beaten 1-0 by bottom of the league team Tuffley Rovers on Saturday when Phil Glover’s side gave an inept display to crash to a home defeat .
Westfields had beaten a Tuffley side 7-0 a few weeks ago at their Gloucestershire HQ but the visitors came for revenge and displayed a similar performance to that of last season when again they did a smash and grab raid on Westfields to take the points.
Westfields wasted so many opportunities again at allpay.park and even Dan Stoneman saw a penalty saved when a chance of a point was put on a plate midway through the second half.
Westfields had a couple of good chances to have taken the lead in the first half but teenager Cameron Davies headed wide when well placed and then Joel Owusu shot wide when a goal seemed certain.
In a poor first half the sides went in goalless but after the break Westfields conceded a soft opening goal to the visitors when Westfields failed to deal with a left wing cross and when the ball was played back into the penalty area Dan Lander bundled the ball home at the far post for a gift lead.
Westfields had dominated the game for long periods but the attack lacked the cutting edge as Adam Wakely and Josh Hunt failed to add touches to good approach play. Harry Pitman then had a shot cleared off the line before Dan Stoneman had a penalty saved by Luke Merchant in the visitors’ goal after Josh Hunt had been brought down.
Westfields could not find a killer touch as too many passes went astray as they crashed to a home defeat against Tuffley Rovers who were trying to escape relegation and secured 3 points to help their cause.
