Slimbridge 2 – Clayson, Sutherland

Westfields suffered a disappointing home defeat to visiting Slimbridge in a Hellenic League Premier Division game when the visitors claimed a 2-1 away win over a disappointing Westfields side.

It was Westfields second consecutive league defeat and it came as Westfields gave away too many free kicks and mis placed passes.

Westfields got off to a flying start when Dan Stoneman headed home a 4th minute free kick taken by Cameron Keetch to give Westfields the perfect start.

However, it took Slimbridge just 2 minutes to draw level when Theo Clayton side footed home a left wing cross to put the visitors level.

Shay Sherry in the Westfields goal then made 2 brave saves and Cameron Keetch cleared off the Westfields goal line as Slimbridge finished the half on top.

In the second half Westfields soon brought on substitute Cawley Cox and he made his presence felt when he rattled the Slimbridge post with a low drive and the ball rebounded to Archie Muirhead who’s shot was blocked on the goal line.

Westfields then gave away a needless 86th minute free kick and when the ball came into the Westfields penalty area it was not cleared and Shiyak Sutherland got the final touch to put the visitors ahead late in the game.

Westfields still had chances in the dying minutes when Luke Williams shot into the side netting when well placed and two late corners were cleared by the big Slimbridge defence as Westfields finished with their second league defeat in 4 Days.

On Saturday Westfields host Newcastle Town at allpay Park in the FA Cup Preliminary Round Kick off 3pm.
