Recap

Westfields 3 – Hall 3

Roman Glass St George 2 – Spark, Saunders

Westfields gave new manager Scott Russell his first league win when his new look team recorded a superb 3-2 home win over promotion hopefuls Roman Glass St George to follow up from the previous weeks 1-1 Draw at Mangotsfield and secure 3 vital points with a big win at allpay.park.

Westfields were led to their victory by a hat trick from Justin Hall who has recently joined Westfields from Malvern Town and he showed true class with 3 opportunist goals.

Visiting Roman Glass should have taken the lead in the opening minutes when striker lewis Gilchrist got free and rounded Westfields keeper Zeke Vivian but saw his shot cannon off the post.

The Bristol visitors were causing problems in the early stages and Paul Hurrell twice made timely clearances before Westfields opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Justin Hall swept the ball home at the end of a fine 4 player move.

Vivian then saved well as Roman Glass came back into the game but Westfields went 2-0 ahead in the 26th minute when the lively Hall seized on a mistake in the visitors defence to put Westfields into a commanding lead when he shot home from an acute angle.

The visitors came back well and Westfields keeper Vivian tipped an effort over the bar but from the resultant corner Westfields scrambled the ball clear to the edge of the penalty area and Jack Spark fired a low shot into the bottom corner of the Westfields net just before the half time whistle.

After the break the visitors went all out for an equaliser and only stout defending from Hurrell and Cam Davies kept the Roman Glass attack at bay until the 64th minute when they drew level when Charlie Saunders hit a shot which clipped the underside of the bar and went into the far corner of the net for the equaliser.

In an end to end exciting game Westfields players upped their game and came back at the promotion hopefuls and in the 78th minute Westfields substitute Luke Firkin broke through and hit a hard low shot which the visitors keeper parried and Justin Hall raced in to slam the ball home for his hat trick and the Westfields winner.

Then it was backs to the wall as Westfields defence worked superbly to keep out Roman Glass, and Hurrell, Davies and keeper Zeke Vivian had applause for a superb performance as the new look Westfields side recorded a fine team victory.
