Recap

Westfields 1 – Brooks

Newcastle Town 1 – Jones

Westfields came within 2 minutes of a place in the FA Cup 1st Round Qualifying when visitors Newcastle Town equalised with an injury time goal after Westfields had been trying to run down the clock with a corner kick and were caught out as the visitors broke away to equalise with a last ditch effort.

It was agony for the Westfields side who had gone toe to toe with their higher graded opponents and now must face a midweek replay at Newcastle on Tuesday night.

Westfields and Newcastle had battled out a goaless first half in which teenagers Shay Sterry in the Westfields goal was faultless and central defender Cam Davies performed superbly against the big visitors attack.

Early in the second half Ben Brooks took advantage of a hesitation in the Newcastle defence and riffled home an 18 yard drive to put Westfields ahead.

Westfields almost increased their lead when Cawley Cox fired narrowly over the bar and as Newcastle pushed for an equaliser Sterry saved at full stretch.

Westfields seemed to be heading into the next round when deep into injury time they were awarded a corner kick and in trying to run down the clock  Newcastle broke away on the counter attack and when Sterry palmed away the first shot it fell invitingly for substitute Tom Jones who fired in an equaliser to force a replay at Newcastle Town on Tuesday.

Next Saturday Westfields host AFC Wulfrunians at Allpay.park 3pm in the FA Vase Preliminary Round .
