Westfields win local Derby

Westfields got back to winning ways on Saturday when they beat visiting Lydney Town comfortably  3-0 at allpay.park to make amends for the disappointing result the previous Saturday away at Fairford Town.

Westfields played some good attractive soccer and were too slick and quick for the Forest of Dean visitors and earned 3 valuable points to keep them in touch with the leading group in the Hellenic League Premier Division.

Westfields however had to defend in the early stages and keeper lan Havard went full length at the foot of the post to keep out a goal bound effort.

Westfields took the lead in the 14th minute when teenager HARRISON SUMMERS  outpaced the Lydney Town defence to score with a low drive .

Westfields then had several chances to have increased the lead but Cawley Cox And Josh Hunt both failed from good opportunities .

However just before the break Westfields doubled their lead when JOSH HUNT took a ball in his stride and twisted one way then the other before riffling a shot high into the net to give Westfields a 2-0 interval lead After the break Lydney came out looking for an early goal and forced a couple of corners but Kane Kahaki defended well and then Westfields increased their lead with a fine solo goal from CAWLEY COX who received a pass from Summers and side stepped the visitors keeper and pick his spot to put Westfields 3-0 ahead .

Westfields then pushed forward and the Lydney keeper saved well from Josh Hunt then Summers shot over the bar when well placed .

Westfields who gave a debut to new signing Sean Powell from Builth Wells continued to dominate and Josh Hunt got free of his marker and through on goal but his shot flew inches wide of the upright.

Westfields sent on all 3 substitutes and maintained their lead with an accomplished team performance This week Westfields travel to Kington Town on Tuesday in the HFA County Senior Challenge Cup On Saturday Westfields return to allpay .park with a Home league game v Calne Town from Wiltshire.
