WESTFIELDS OFF THE MARK WITH 3-2 WIN

Westfields got their first league win of the season with a thrilling 3-2 home win over visiting Longlevens AFC on Saturday at Allpay Park.

Westfields had to come from behind to win the game in the second half but gave a hardworking display, particularly with several key players missing.

Westfields got off to a dream start when new striker, Ollie Barnes, shot them ahead in the fifth minute from an acute angle but the visitors hit back, and Brad Martin scored twice from close range to give the visitors a 2-1 interval lead.

Longlevens were causing Westfields problems at the back, but Kane Kahaki worked hard to keep the home defence in check.

After the break, Westfields equalised within 5 minutes, when again dangerman, Ollie Barnes shot home through a ruck of players from 12 yards, and this signalled a spell of attacking play from Westfields as they began to get on top.

Westfields went ahead when Harry Pitman got free on the right, beat his defender, cut inside and shot, the ball was fumbled by the visiting keeper, but the ball looked across the line before Ollie Barnes applied the finishing touch into the back of the net. The goal was credited to Harry Pitman by the assistant referee. With Westfields now 3-2 ahead, they began to create some good chances and the Westfields attack then sent a free kick crashing against the Longlevens crossbar, whilst at the other end, good defending by Cam Davies and Kane Kahaki kept the visitors attack at bay.

Westfields looked dangerous down the flanks with Dan Stoneman and substitute Archie Muirhead threatening but Westfields had to be cautious as Longlevens were dangerous on the break. However, with minutes ticking away and the referee playing 7 minutes added time, Westfields held firm to register a fine 3-2 home win and set themselves up nicely for Tuesday night’s trip to league leaders, Worcester Raiders.

On Saturday, Westfields play in the FA Cup Preliminary Round when the expect a large crowd at Allpay Park for the visitor of Worcester City in the FA Cup, kick off 3:00pm.
