WESTFIELDS HIT BACK TO GO THROUGH IN FLOODLIT CUP
Westfields hit back against visiting Long Crendon from Oxford to win an exciting end-to-end cup tie 4-2 at allpay.park last night when they overcame the visitors with second-half goals.
Westfields fielded a very young side initially and they found themselves a goal down early in the first half when Tom Ashworth put the visitors ahead but on the stroke of half time Harvey Morris equalised from close range to put the sides level at the break.
After the interval Keegan Simpson put Long Crendon 2-1 ahead but then Manager Phil Glover introduced the 3 substitutes of Josh Hunt, Morgan Evans and Jack Gittoes and this made an immediate presence when Evans headed home the equaliser to set up the cup tie.
Westfields then really set about the visitors and went ahead when Jack Gittoes was brought down in the penalty area and Gittoes got up and took the penalty himself and slotted home Westfields’ third goal to put them in front.
With Westfields’ free-flowing attack working well with Evans, Hunt and Gittoes along with a good backup it produced a fourth goal when Evans went down the left wing, cut inside and laid the ball back into the path of Josh Hunt who slammed home the fourth Westfields goal to put the issue and cup tie beyond doubt.
Westfields now go through to the next round of the Wiseman Floodlit Cup.
On Saturday Westfields travel to Thornbury Town, kick-off 3pm, in the Hellenic League Premier Division and next Wednesday, 19th October, entertain Longlevens in the Hellenic League Premier Division.
