Westfields pay the penalty

Westfields were beaten 2-1 at home by visiting Fairford Town on Saturday when again a hard working performance saw a home defeat despite have an 80th minute chance to salvage a point from a penalty but Adam Wakely saw his spot kick brilliantly saved by the Fairford keeper Ben Mitchell.

In the first half it was Fairford who took the lead from the penalty spot when Kai Mahon put Fairford ahead in the 16th minute. However, Westfields came back well and teenager Rory Thompson put Westfields level with an acrobatic overhead kick in the 37th minute, before Fairford regained the lead before the break when Ben Lodge seized on a defensive mix up in the Westfields defence to send the visitors in 2-1 ahead at the interval.

After the break Westfields enjoyed good periods of play with Harrison Summers and Archie Muirhead both doing well on the flanks.

When Fairford did attack they found both Kane Kahaki and Paul Hurrell in top form in the Westfields defence.

After a good attacking spell Westfields got their chance to draw level when Carrick Hill was brought down in the Fairford box but Adam Wakely saw his penalty well saved by the visiting keeper.

Westfields threw men forward to gain a point but the visitors stood firm and record an away victory which keeps them in touch with the play off positions.

Next Saturday Westfields travel to Highworth  Town for another Hellenic League Premier Division Game.
