WESTFIELDS GO THROUGH IN COUNTY CUP WITH GOALS GALORE

Westfields started their search for silverware when they beat visiting Bromyard Town 6-0 at allpay.park last night in the first round of the HFA County Senior Challenge Cup.

Westfields displayed attacking flair from the start right through to the finish and scored in only the 3rd minute when Joe Davies joined the attack and shot home after a right-wing corner was not cleared by the Bromyard defence.

Westfields were dominating the early stages and looked as though they were going to score again but it was at the other end where Matt Apperley made a superb save to prevent Bromyard drawing level in the 15th minute.

However, Westfields increased their lead when Kyle Cassell seized on an opportunity when the visiting keeper fumbled a ball and Cassell was on hand to blast Westfields 2-0 in front with the rebound.

Westfields were playing strong football down both flanks with Archie Muirhead and Dan Stoneman both causing Bromyard Town problems and it came as no surprise when Muirhead put Westfields further ahead with a brilliant volley at the back post to make it 3-0 and then moments later Archie Muirhead made it 4-0 before the break when Joel Owusu squared the ball back to Muirhead for a simple goal to put Westfields 4 up at the break.

After the interval Bromyard came more into the game and defended stubbornly but they were lucky to have a let-off when Stoneman got down the right-hand side and MacDonald was on the end of the pass but his shot rattled the crossbar.

Westfields eventually went 5-0 ahead when Jack Gittoes, who had earlier come on as substitute, raced into the box and turned brilliantly to hit a strike past the Bromyard keeper.

Westfields were really finishing strong and in the end they rattled into the 6th goal when a free kick by Dan Stoneman was cleverly flicked home by Dale Richards at the near post to give Westfields a comprehensive victory and to put them through to the quarter finals of the HFA County Senior Challenge Cup when they will meet either Inkberrow or Holme Lacy on Tuesday 14th February.
