WESTFIELDS PAY FOR MISSED CHANCES
Westfields hosted visiting Bradford Town on Saturday and, after a minute’s applause to honour the life of Football Broadcaster and Match of the Day commentator John Motson who had sadly died this week, Westfields tried to gain 3 valuable points against relegation threatened Bradford Town but were guilty of poor finishing and had to settle for a point from a 1-1 draw.
Westfields had good early chances against the Wiltshire visitors but Dan Stoneman, Sean Powell, Josh Hunt and Harry Pitman all failed to put away chances, then Adam Wakely missed a penalty after Perrin in the Bradford goal had brought down Harry Pitman as the youngster was clean through.
Westfields then found themselves a goal down on 32 minutes when Scott Bauer put Bradford ahead after Westfields had failed to clear their lines.
Westfields then missed the chance to draw level when Wakely put his penalty too close to Perrin in the Bradford goal and his trailing legs saved the spot kick.
After the break Westfields stepped up in search of an equaliser and forced corner after corner which the visitors’ defence dealt with and defended superbly.
Westfields eventually drew level in the 70th minute when Harry Pitman fired home from the edge of the penalty area from a direct free kick after Josh Hunt had been fouled.
In the last 20 minutes Westfields threw everything forward and battered the Bradford defence but could not break down a firm defence as the visitors hung on for a precious point as Westfields rued the missed opportunities and a missed penalty.
Next Saturday Westfields travel to Wantage Town for a Hellenic League Premier Division Game.
