WESTFIELDS OFF TO A FLYER
Westfields got off to a great start in their first pre-season friendly behind closed doors when they met West Midland League Premier Division side Black Country Rangers.
The game was played at a cracking pace in the humid conditions on the beautifully prepared allpay.park pitch and Westfields moved the ball around quickly with Sirdic Grant and Matt Reeve both prominent in the early stages.
Westfields took the lead mid-way through the half when a neat movement saw King Baidoo race clear of the visitors’ defence and plant a firm shot low into the bottom corner of the net to give Westfields the lead.
Black Country Rangers came storming back and almost drew level on the stroke of half time but Stephen Sarkodie in the Westfields goal produced a flying full-length save to keep out an effort at the foot of the post.
Westfields’ new signing Joel Edwards frequently broke down the left hand side to keep the visitors on their toes but Westfields went in at the break 1-0 ahead.
After the interval both sides created good chances but it was Westfields who sealed the game ten minutes from time when Aidan Thomas cut in from the left hand side, beat his defender and slotted the ball low past the visitors’ keeper to give Westfields a 2-0 lead.
Westfields displayed good passing movement throughout the game against a very good and hard-working visiting Black Country Rangers side.
Westfields continue their games behind closed doors this Saturday when they meet Worcester Raiders, kick-off 3pm.
