Wantage Town 1 – Davis
Westfields 2 – Wakley, Powell
WESTFIELDS WIN AT WANTAGE
Westfields produced a hard working away performance at Wantage Town on Saturday to record an impressive 2-1 away result to maintain 4th position in the Hellenic Premier Division.
Westfields opened up at a cracking pace and Adam Wakely should have put the visitors ahead when Harry Pitman set him up but he shot wide of an empty net.
Stoneman was creating openings on the right flank and shot into the side netting when well placed then at the other end Matt Apperley in the Westfields goal tipped over a stinging shot. Westfields then had another great chance when Sean Powell set up Harry Pitman but the youngster squandered the chance.
Westfields eventually broke the deadlock on 20 minutes when from a Steve Davies free kick, Josh Hunt headed the ball back across goal to Adam Wakely who headed Westfields ahead.
Westfields then had further chances to increase the lead but Cameron Davies and Josh Hunt saw chances go close. However just before the break Westfields increased the lead when after good approach work by Stoneman and Matt MacDonald, Sean Powell bundled the ball home which went in off a Wantage defender.
After the break Westfields should have put the score line out of reach for Wantage when a left wing cross by Sean Powell was headed powerfully wide by Josh Hunt.
Wantage came more into the game and Ben Vine and Joe Davies were in commanding form at the heart of the Westfields defence. However with 15 minutes to go Wantage pulled a goal back through Josh Davies and this signalled all out effort from the Oxfordshire side as they threw players forward in search of an equaliser but Westfields defended superbly to keep Wantage at bay and registered their 17th league win of the season with a hard working 2-1 away win.
