Wantage Town 3 – Sanchez 2, Hutchinson

Westfields 1 – Wakley

Westfields new manager Scott Russell saw his side fritter away a host of clear cut chances at Wantage Town as they were beaten 3-1 in a game they dominated for long periods but were guilty of some poor finishing which should have given them something from the game.

Westfields found themselves 1-0 down in only the 7th minute when Lewis Hutchinson hit a superb volley into the roof of the net to give the home side the lead.

Westfields came back and both Matt McDonald And Adam Wakely had chances to put Westfields level then Cameron Davies headed wide from a Dan Stoneman Corner.

Wantage then increased their lead when a free kick from Cameron Sanchez hit the Westfields wall and deflected past Jack Oxenham in the Westfields goal to put the home side 2-0 ahead. However Westfields pulled a goal back just before half time when Adam Wakely headed home a right wing cross.

After the break Westfields went all out for an equaliser, Cameron Davies headed agonisingly wide and Sam Griffiths had a shot well saved by the Wantage keeper. Westfields then found themselves going 3-1 down when Sanchez let fly a tremendous shot to put Wantage 3-1 ahead on the hour.

Westfields mounted attack after attack and Adam Wakely and Matt McDonald went close but the home side held out to register a 3-1 home win.

Westfields are Away next Saturday at Brimscombe and Thrupp Kick off 3pm
