WESTFIELDS HELD UP AT WOOTTON BASSETT

Westfields returned to a more workmanlike display after their disappointing 1-0 home defeat against Ollerton in the FA Vase the previous week when they drew 1-1 away at Royal Wootton Bassett in the Hellenic League Premier Division on Saturday.

Westfields were keen to get back to winning ways but were foiled by a late goal by the home side who scored late on through substitute Matthew Jones.

Earlier, Westfields had had a number of early chances in the first half but the sides went in goal-less at the interval.

After the break Westfields broke the deadlock when Josh Hunt, who had earlier come on as substitute, played a super ball through to Dan Stoneman who went through to slot home a perfect goal to put Westfields ahead.

It looked as though this would be enough to win the game and restore 3 points to Westfields but the home side came back to score a good goal when Matthew Jones, who had also come on as a substitute, turned smartly on the edge of the Westfields box and hammered low past Ian Havard.

In the last 10 minutes both sides went close to securing a win and Hunt was not far away with a header which went over the bar, and then Stoneman also had a shot scrambled off the line as Westfields did everything to score.

Westfields now play 3 home matches at allpay.park starting this Saturday with a home game against Roman Glass St George, kick-off 3pm.
