Recap

Royal Wootton Bassett Town 1 – Presley

Westfields 2 – Firkin 2

Westfields recorded their 3rd consecutive Hellenic League win on the bounce when they followed up last weeks 4-2 away win at Roman Glass St George to dent Royal Wootton Bassett Town promotion hopes with a 2-1 away win at Swindon on Saturday.

The star of the Late show was super sub Luke Firkin who manager Scott Russell put on in the 85th minute and the ex Cinderford Town striker pounced twice in the last 10 minutes to give Westfields the 3 points with two clinical finishes.

The first half saw Westfields enjoy the better opportunities and Dan Stoneman and Oli Barnes both had opportunities to open the scoring for Westfields but at the other end Zeke Vivian made full length saves to see the sides go in goalless at the break.

After the interval Westfields got off to a great start and Oli Barnes hit a fierce shot against the Bassett bar.

However, Royal Wootton Bassett Town began to get into their stride and after Vivian had made two important saves in the Westfields goal, the promotion contenders took the lead when Westfields could only clear a Bassett corner to the edge of the penalty area and the ball fell nicely for Alfie Presley and the Bassett marksman rifled the ball into the bottom corner to give the home side the lead.

Westfields manager Scott Russell then introduced 4 substitutes in an effort to bring about an equaliser and Luke Firkin was on hand to riffle home an 88th minute equaliser and set up late drama as both sides went all out for a winner.

Westfields deservedly got the winner deep in injury time when Harrison Summers sent over a high cross to cause panic in the Wootton Bassett goal area and Luke Firkin was first to react when he pounced to fire home an injury time winner and send the travelling Westfields fans home happy with a brilliant 2-1 away win over a Royal Wootton Bassett Town currently in the play off position.

Westfields next game is away at local rivals Hereford Pegasus on Friday night kick off 7-45pm at Old School Lane in the Hellenic League Derby.
