Recap

Newcastle Town 2 – Jones, Avery

Westfields 0

Westfields were beaten 2-0 away at Newcastle Town last night when the Staffordshire side won the FA Cup Preliminary Round Replay.

Westfields had come within 2 minutes of winning at allpay, park on Saturday when Newcastle forced a Replay.

Westfields were never in the hunt at Newcastle Town as the big home side dominated the game for long periods and never really allowed Westfields opportunities.

It took 2 goal line clearances by Cam Davies and a fine save by Keiron Blackburn to keep out the home side but they broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time when a long right wing throw in was not cleared by the Westfields defence and the ball fell invitingly to Tom Jones who crashed the ball home from 6 yards for a 1-0 interval lead.

After the break Newcastle increased their lead when a mistake by keeper Keiron Blackburn offered Jake Avery a half chance and the Newcastle Town striker took the chance to score with a 20 yard shot from an acute angle.

Westfields sent on 4 substitutes Cawley Cox, Harrison Summers, Archie Muirhead and Dan Stoneman and all showed flashes in an effort to get Westfields back in the game but the big classy Newcastle Town team stood firm to earn a home tie with Long Eaton United in the FA Cup first Qualifying Round.

This Saturday Westfields meet AFC Wulfrunians at home in the FA Vase kick off 3pm.
