WESTFIELDS BOW OUT OF CUP

Westfields bowed out of the Hellenic League Challenge Cup when they were beaten 2-1 away at Lydney Town last night in a game they should have won comfortably.

Westfields dominated the game for long periods but were guilty of some poor finishing and it was the home side who scored their two goal scoring opportunities in the 65th and 67th minutes to give themselves a chance.

Westfields had gone in at the break all square at 0-0 but after the break chances fell to Cameron Davies, Kyle Cassell, and Joe Davies but they all failed to put Westfields ahead and the home side scored two quick goals against the run of play to go 2-0 ahead before Westfields brought on substitutes Harry Pitman and Steve Davies and this lifted Westfields when Pitman scored from a free kick to bring Westfields back into the game and set up a grandstand finish.

Westfields then dominated the remaining ten minutes but could not force an equaliser to take the game to penalties as chances went begging and the Lydney Town keeper produced a number of impressive saves to deny Westfields an equaliser.

Westfields now face Bradford Town at home on Saturday in the league in a bid to maintain their attempt to keep 3rd spot in the league table.
