Longlevens 2 – Gwillim, Rose

Westfields suffered their first defeat of the the new season with a 2-0 away defeat at a youthful Longlevens side in the Hellenic League Premier Division.

It was a a disappointing display from the Westfields side who wasted a hatful of first half chances as Westfields dominated the opening 45 minutes but coupled with poor finishing and good goalkeeping by the Longlevens keeper, Westfields failed to convert their opportunities as Dan Stoneman shot wide when through on goal.

Longlevens took a first half lead when Keiron Blackburn failed to gather a high cross and the ball fell to youngster Finn Gwillim who slotted the ball home from close range.

Westfields still had chances to draw level before the break but Ash Wintle in the Longlevens goal dealt with everything confidently.

After the break Westfields long ball approach was dealt with by a more confident Longlevens defence and Westfields best chance came when Stoneman robbed the home keeper from outside the penalty area but his long range effort hit the Longlevens cross bar.

Keiron Blackburn was then called into action with two flying saves before Longlevens increased their lead in the 82nd minute when Blackburn palmed away a stinging drive but substitute Lewis Rose was quickest to react to slam home the rebound and put Longlevens 2-0 ahead.

Westfields introduced their substitutes but it was Blackburn who made 2 late saves to prevent Westfields from falling further behind as the young Longlevens side grew in confidence to record a 2-0 home win.

On Tuesday Westfields face Slimbridge at allpay.park in a league match and next Saturday meet Newcastle Town in the FA Cup Preliminary Round Kick off 3pm at allpay.park.
