Westfields win in penalties

WESTFIELDS THROUGH TO SENIOR FINAL

Westfields went through to the HFA County Senior Challenge Cup Final with a nail biting 5-3 penalty shootout after Hereford Lads Club and Westfields had battled out a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes.

Westfields were lucky not to go a goal behind early on when the Lads Club striker got free but Matt Apperley made a fine save.

Westfields took the lead in the 33rd minute when Joe Davies headed home a left wing corner.  However Hereford Lads Club drew level just before the interval when, after a Westfields free kick had been intercepted, the home side swept up field and a right wing cross was headed home by Rob Whitlock to put the sides level at the break.

After the interval Westfields dominated the game for long periods but Jamie Cuthbertson marshalled the Lads Club defence well and cut out several menacing Westfields attacks.

Westfields could not break down the Hereford Lads Club defence and the game went to penalties but Westfields showed their skill and accuracy in scoring all 5 spot kicks while Hereford Lads Club were thwarted by a full length save by Westfields keeper Matt Apperley as Westfields went through 5-3 on penalties.

Westfields are at HOME on Saturday to Worcester Raiders, kick off 3pm at allpay.park
