WESTFIELDS GET VITAL AWAY WIN

Westfields travelled to second in the table Binfield at Bracknell and turned in an excellent first half performance to race into a 2-0 interval lead thanks to goals from Keanu Cooper in the eighth minute and a vital goal just before half time from Billy Murphy.

Westfields looked impressive in the first half and could have had further goals as Aidan Thomas and Richard Greaves were both thwarted by the home keeper.

However, after the break it was a different story as the home side hit back to score through Asa Povey and Josh Helmore to put the two sides level late in the game.

Westfields then introduced substitute Dan Stoneman and he created his own chance in the 88th minute when he went down the left flank, cut inside and from the most acute angle slotted home the winner off the far post to give Westfields three valuable points and a fine 3-2 away win.

Westfields had to defend stubbornly in the latter stages and superb defending by Paul Hurrell and Kane Kahaki had kept out the lively home side and Harvey Rivers in the Westfields goal had also looked particularly impressive in the first half.

This result now sets up a busy week for Westfields as on Tuesday night they entertain Brimscombe & Thrupp in a league match at allpay.park, kick-off 7.45 pm and then on Saturday, 28th September, they are hosts at allpay.park to Malvern Town in the second round of the Hellenic League Cup, kick-off 3 pm.
