MATCH REPORT | Fields return to winning ways with two goals in a superb second half the difference against Lydney Town

Fields returned to winning ways in the Hellenic League Premier Division, with a 2-0 victory over Lydney Town on Friday evening.

It was a positive start from Fields, with Harrison Summers, Cawley Cox and Dan Stoneman all looking a threat going forward.

Ben Brooks and Harrison Summers had chances early on, before Cawley Cox saw his far post header superbly saved, in a frustrating half for Fields.

Hosts Lydney, who were boosted by a number of new signings, and a solid performance from right back Jake Bevan who is dual registered with Malvern Town, also had chances in the first half so neither side could really moan going into half time level.

However, in the second half Fields stepped it up a level. Mason Godsall and Nathan Davies started to get on the ball more in midfield which dictated play and gave Fields much more control.

This opened up space for Harrison Summers, who’s superb forward run and pass found Dan Stoneman, who played a delightful ball across the six yard box, for Cawley Cox to smash home to make it 1-0 to Fields.

Despite this, the hosts remained a threat, with young goalkeeper Shay Sterry impressing with a couple of saves, and Cam Davies was alert of a couple of occasions to stop any danger.

Substitute James Hancocks wrapped up all three points, when his effort, that took a slight deflection, looped over the Lydney Town keeper and into the corner of the net, to earn Fields a 2-0 victory that lifts them up to 11th place in the Hellenic League Premier Division.

Striker Cawley Cox was named as man of the match with another brilliant performance, topped off with his second goal in two matches.

The management team of Nick Morgan, Scott Russell, John Haycox and Dan Chance will be positive following that second half performance that the team are turning a corner with some neat passing football on show at times.

Fields are next in action on Tuesday evening, when they host Tuffley Rovers in a 7.45pm kick off.
