Westfields 4 – Heffernan, Godsall, Powell, Brooks

Westfields returned to Winning Ways in the Hellenic League Premier Division with a convincing 4-0 home win over visiting Thornbury Town on Saturday at allpay.park.

Westfields were without suspended fullback Sam Hunt but Drew Heffernan slotted in well at left back as Westfields really dominated the game from the start.

Westfields opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Thornbury failed to clear a Stoneman corner kick and it fell nicely to Drew Heffernan who shot home through a ruck of players to put Westfields 1-0 ahead.

Five minutes earlier Keiron Blackburn made a fine double save to prevent Thornbury taking the lead.

Westfields were beginning to open up the visitors defence as wingers Dan Stoneman  and Archie Muirhead got in useful crosses and this led to Westfields second goal when Mason Godsall put Westfields 2-0 ahead in the 25th minute with a lovey finish from the edge of the penalty area.

Westfields were in full flow now and completed the first half with a a cracking third goal when Zac Powell finished well with a crisp shot to give Westfields a cracking 3-0 interval lead.

After the break Thornbury Town were struggling to break down a well organised Westfields  defence  and Westfields looked likely to add to their score line but Adam Clark in the visitors goal did well to deal with dangerous crosses.

Westfields then brought on substitute Ben Brooks to add more attacking options and Brooks made his presence felt when he was on the spot to put Westfields 4-0 up with a close range finish.

Westfields finished the game strong to earn 3 points and with a convincing 4-0 home league win.

Next Saturday Westfields travel to Malmesbury Town for a league match then return to allpay.park to play Alcester Town in the Semi Final of the HFA County Senior Challenge Cup on Tuesday 11 March kick off 7-45pm
