Recap
Westfields 2 – Heffernan, Brooks
Mangotsfield United 1 – Porton
Westfields overcame a tricky semi final tie to reach the final of the Wiseman Floodlit Cup when they beat Bristol based club Mangotsfield United 2-1 with a non stop performance last night at allpay.park.
Westfields had to recover from the visitors first minute goal when Joe Porton burst through the Westfields defence to beat teenage keeper Shay Sterry to give the visitors a dream start.
However, Westfields hit back with an equaliser in the 5th minute when from a Dan Stoneman corner Drew Heffernan rose at the far post to head Westfields level.
Westfields then enjoyed a good period of play and Ben Brooks put Westfields 2-1 ahead when he swept the ball home again from a Stoneman cross.
Mangotsfield then hit the cross bar with a well worked move before on the stroke of half time Brooks had another fine effort well saved by the Mangotsfield keeper.
After the break both defences remained on top and Westfields defence were superb under pressure lead by skipper Brandon Jennings.
Young keeper Shay Sterry produced two brave saves to deny Mangotsfield as Westfields won 2-1 with a hard working performance to earn them their second Senior Cup Final of the season when they will meet Cirencester Town.
