WESTFIELDS COMPLETE LEAGUE DOUBLE OVER LONGLEVENS

Westfields completed an Hellenic League Premier Division league double over visiting Longlevens on Wednesday night when they had a hard-working 2-0 victory over the visitors from Gloucestershire.

Westfields had earlier beaten Longlevens at their headquarters and were looking for their league double and it was a 2 goal salvo from dangerman Daniel Stoneman that gave Westfields 3 valuable points to keep them up in 3^rd position.

Stoneman returned from a one-match suspension to lead Westfields to a fine 2-0 home victory and he opened the scoring on 22 minutes in the first half when he fired home from an acute angle.

Westfields had really played good attractive football in the first period but the visitors looked lively and it took a Lewis Binns goal-line clearance to save Westfields from going a goal down in only the 5^th minute.

After Stoneman had put Westfields ahead Westfields had further chances when Josh Hunt and Adam Wakley both had efforts go close.

After the break Joe Davies headed against the Longlevens crossbar and then Adam Wakley shot against the post before Westfields got the vital 2^nd goal when Stoneman again proved the danger when he raced through and held off a challenge from the central defender before firing low past the Longlevens goalkeeper to put Westfields into a 2-0 lead.

Westfields then introduced substitutes Morgan Evans and Ryan Hillier into the attack in an effort to continue the pressure on the visitors but it was Longlevens who came back into the game and they were unlucky not to pull a goal back when they found Ian Havard in sparkling form when he saved well and then the visitors’ striker missed a sitter from 6yds with only minutes left on the clock.

Westfields went on to record a 2-0 victory and a league double which keeps them in 3^rd place in the league table.

This Saturday Westfields are hosts to Ollerton Town from Nottinghamshire in the FA Vase First Round Proper, kick-off 3pm, at allpay.park.
