WESTFIELDS MATCH ABANDONED

Westfields’ home Hellenic League Premier Division game last night was abandoned after 68 minutes when Westfields’ left-back Sam Hunt fell awkwardly into the perimeter rails and was treated for concussion.

However, the emergency services were delayed in arriving and the player was lying with our physio Joe Darley and the Longlevens physio on the touch-line and couldn’t be moved due to a severe neck and back injury that he was complaining of and the match therefore had to be abandoned with Westfields leading 3-0.

The match had started with a minute’s silence in honour of the life of Westfields’ popular committee man Mike Dandey who had sadly died on Friday and of course ended with the sight of Sam Hunt lying on the touch-line as the referee abandoned the game.

Westfields had started and played their best football of the season with Dan Stoneman and then Josh Hunt putting Westfields into a commanding 2-0 lead.

After the break an own goal by Cam Williams, who ironically deflected a Sam Hunt corner into his own net, gave Westfields a 3-0 lead early in the second half before the referee had to abandon the game as Westfields awaited the emergency services which arrived at 11.45pm.
