Hartpury University 2 – Osborn, Baxter

Westfields suffered a 2-0 home defeat to run away League leaders Hartpury Uni when Westfields gifted the talented visitors a 2-0 victory with 2 mistakes that they could not recover from.

Hartpury were big strong and in dominant mood from the kick off and seized on a 9th minute opportunity to open the scoring when Dan Stoneman played a poor pass on the edge of the Westfields penalty area and Billy Osborn intercepted the pass to give him a clear opening on goal and he beat Keiron Blackburn with a superb finish into the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

Westfields were under pressure but Cam Davies was in brilliant form at the heart of the Westfields defence.

Westfields found it hard to break through the students defence as the visitors went in 1-0 up at the break.

After the interval Westfields conceded an early penalty when Keiron Blackburn fouled Osborn in the penalty area and Ben Baxter increased the students lead from the spot Kick.

Westfields should have been back in the game in 65th minute when Owen Taylor put Dan Stoneman through on goal but Stoneman put his shot flew inches past the far post.

Westfields tried hard to get back into the game but former Westfields keeper Steve Sarkodie was in good form.

Hartpury nearly increased their lead when Osborn hit a cracking 25 yard shot but Westfields sub keeper Shay Sterry produced a flying save to palm the ball away.

Both sides produced a hard working second half but despite working hard Westfields could not get a goal to get back into the game.

Tuesday Westfields travel To Droitwich Spa for a League Cup 3rd Round Tie and next Saturday have a big home local derby with Worcester Raiders at Allpay .park kick off 3pm
