Corsham Town 0
WESTFIELDS IN NO SCORE DRAW
Westfields beat the weather by hosting fellow promotion rivals Corsham Town at allpay.park on Saturday in a wind-affected game and both sides put up their defensive barriers to keep out the opposition attacks and also the driving wind.
Westfields and Corsham both needed a win to keep in contention with the second-place promotion spot and shared the honours in a 0-0 end-to-end game dominated by the weather.
Westfields, playing against the wind in the first half, had a number of early opportunities when first Josh Hunt had a shot blocked on the line and then Jamie Bird hit a terrific free kick from outside the penalty area which the opposition goalkeeper brilliantly tipped over the bar at the expense of a corner.
At the other end, Ian Havard twice made brave saves to deny Corsham the opening goal when he dived bravely at the feet of the Corsham striker and then punched away an awkward cross from an in-swinging corner.
Defences were on top as both sides struggled to play constructive football in the heavy conditions and the swirling wind.
After the break with the wind at their advantage Westfields tried hard to break down a strong Corsham defence and Harrison Summers had a great shot well held by the Corsham keeper whilst at the other end Corsham nearly snatched the points when a close-range effort was brilliantly caught by Ian Havard.
Both sides defended really well in the difficult conditions and both sides deserved a point.
Westfields now have a busy weekend as they play 2 more teams chasing promotion. On Saturday they are away at Brimscombe & Thrupp and on Monday they travel to runaway leaders Bishops Cleeve.
Westfields’ next home game is again against a promotion contender, Westbury United, on 5th March.
Promotion is certainly in the hands of Westfields themselves as they face the next 3 games all against teams above them in the league where if they were to take maximum points they would put themselves in a very very strong position.
