Cirencester Town 1 – Reeves
Westfields returned to winning ways after a run of 3 defeats in the Hellenic League Premier Division when they comfortably beat visiting Cirencester Town 4-1 at allpay.park on Saturday.
Westfields included new signing Zac Powell from Bromsgrove Sporting and the Westfields side gave a much improved display to sweep aside a visiting Gloucestershire side.
After a strong opening 20 minutes when Westfields had not made the best of their chances skipper Brandon Jennings headed them in front from a Dan Stoneman cross.
The visitors came back into the game and drew level when Harrison Reeves capitalised on a fumble by Westfields keeper Kerion Blackburn to level the scores.
However, Westfields went back into the lead when Archie Muirhead was brought down on the edge of the penalty area and Sam Hunt smashed home the free kick to restore the Westfields lead then on the stroke of half time, leading goalscorer Cawley Cox got a 3rd Westfields goal with a fine finish after he chased a long through ball and finished in style to give Westfields a 3-1 interval lead.
After the break Westfields dominated long periods of the game but Ronnie Newbury in the Cirencester goal kept out efforts from Cox and Stoneman before Westfields put the issue beyond doubt when Sam Hunt chased a back pass to visiting keeper Newbury and when the keeper miskicked Hunt had an easy chance to score his second goal of the game and give Westfields a commanding 4-1 home win and a valuable 3 points in front of 156 home crowd.
Westfields now play at home on Tuesday to Longlevens, then on Saturday travel to Corsham Town to play one of the title favourites.
