Westfields 1 – Basit

Brimscombe & Thrupp 1 – Snook

WESTFIELDS HELD AT HOME

Westfields’ first home league game of the season resulted in a disappointing 1-1 draw against visiting Brimscombe & Thrupp.

Westfields, having only picked up one win now in 4 games, sadly lacked that killer punch in front of goal and suffered disappointment when Brimscombe substitute Ben Snook scored in injury time equaliser to give the Gloucestershire side a share of the spoils.

Westfields started slowly but could not get past the strong visiting defence and it was the visitors who created a couple of great early opportunities but they were thwarted by good defensive clearances by Kane Kahaki and Paul Hurrell.

Westfields eventually broke the deadlock in the 41st minute when a neat movement resulted in Basit Umar scoring a fine goal when he created space for himself to coolly slot the ball home shortly before the interval.

After the break the visitors came more into the game and it was Steve Sarkodie who made 2 full-length saves to keep out the visitors and very little was seen of the Westfields attack who were continually caught in the offside trap of the Brimscombe & Thrupp side.

Westfields had lost Billy Murphy in the first half to injury and were struggling to put good constructive play together and it was always the case that the visitors looked likely to come back into the game with an equaliser.

However, with the minutes ticking away, and solid defending by Sam Rawlings and Kane Kahaki looked to have secured the points, substitute Ben Snook came on and stole an equaliser for the visitors when he scrambled home the ball from close range from a left-wing cross.

Westfields introduced substitute Richard Smith into the attack but the former Worcester Raiders striker was not given the opportunities to put Westfields back in front as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Westfields now play at home next Saturday to Virginia Water, kick-off 3pm at allpay.park.

The following Wednesday, 14th October, Westfields travel to Slimbridge in the Hellenic League Cup First Round.
