Mangotsfield United 4 – Powell 3, Barry

Westfields kicked off the new year with a disappointing performance and result when they were well beaten 4-0 away at promotion chasing Mangotsfield United at Bristol on New Years Day.

Westfields got off to the worst possible start when teenage keeper Shay Sterry spilled a Lewis Powell shot into his goal in the 9 minute then Powell put the Bristol side 2-0 up in the 15th minute from close range.

Westfields briefly hit back and Ellis Parker in the home goal saved well from Cawley Cox and Owen Taylor as Westfields tried to get back in the game.

Just before half time Sterry missed timed a punched clearance and Michael Barry riffled home to put Westfields 3-0 down at the break.

After the the interval Cox and Dan Stoneman had chances but the Mangotsfield keeper produced good saves then Sam Hunt wasted a great chance when he blazed wide from close range with the goal at his mercy.

Mangotsfield made the game safe when Lewis Powell got his hat trick with a tidy finish to put the home side 4-0 ahead.

Sterry then made 2 good stops to deny further goals as Mangotsfield were reduced to 10 men when Cawley Cox was brought down from behind when going through on goal.

Westfields now meet Roman Glass St George at allpay.park on Saturday kick off 3pm.
