Malmesbury Victoria 2 – Jaggers, Hughes

Westfields travelled to bottom of the table Malmesbury Victoria and should have won comfortably but were guilty of some poor attempts on goal and paid dearly for not taking their chances as  Westfields slumped to a 2-0 Away Hellenic Premier Division Defeat on Saturday.

Westfields should have opened the scoring in the opening minute when Ryan Hillier burst through the Malmesbury defence only to see Oliver Gareett in the home goal save at the expense of a corner.

Dan Stonemans corner was poor and was quickly cleared up field and from the cross into Westfields penalty area Tyler Jaggers had an easy chance to head home at the far post where he was un marked in only the second minute.

Westfields should have got level as they created chance after chance but Archie Muirhead and Jake Bevan both saw shots saved by Garreett in the home goal then Dan Stoneman shot over the bar from six yards out.

Just before the break Ryan Hillier missed from close range as Malmesbury were glad to hear the half time whistle after Westfields had dominated the first half.

After the break it was a similar pattern of play as Westfields went all out for a deserved equaliser but Hillier saw an effort hit the Malmesbury crossbar then Mason Godsall saw a 20 yard shot acrobatically saved by the Malmesbury keeper.

Malmesbury then caught Westfields out on a counter attack when substitute Josh Hughes scored with his first touch when he curled a lovely 20 shot past Shay Sterry in the Westfields goal to put Malmesbury into a shock 2-0 lead.

Westfields hit back and dominated the later stages of the game in search of goals but poor attempts on goal by Ben Brookes and Stoneman left Westfields ending the game very disappointed.

On Tuesday Westfields are at home Alcester Town in the Semi Final of the HFA County Senior Challenge Cup.
Westfields are without a game on Saturday.
