WESTFIELDS BEATEN AWAY

Westfields are still looking for their first away win of the season when following their defeat at Cribbs last week they were unable to gain any points away at Longlevens last night in the Hellenic League Premier Division game.

Westfields found themselves up against a strong, hard-working and fit Longlevens side who snatched a lead when they seized on a mistake by Sam Hunt in the 27th minute and Alex Rea went through and beat Ian Havard with a low shot into the corner of the net.

Westfields came back and had a good chance to equalise but Aidan Thomas’ left-foot drive flew inches over the bar.

After the break Westfields again founds themselves up against a resolute Longlevens defence and twin strikers Josh Hunt and Richard Greaves could make little headway and again the home side took the lead when Sam Hunt gave away a penalty in the 60th minute and Shaun O’Connor beat Ian Havard with a shot in off the post.

Westfields then suffered two injuries when Aidan Thomas and Richard Greaves both left the field to be replaced by their substitutes but fell further behind when Charlie Holliday swept home a third goal for Longlevens in the 88th minute.

Little was seen of the Westfields attack although they had one good chance towards the end when a strong header from Kane Kahaki was well saved by the home keeper.

Westfields now have one win from their opening four league matches and revert this week to FA Cup duty when they will play Coventry United at allpay.park, kick-off 3pm, in the Preliminary Round tie.
