Droitwich Spa 2 – Dugmore, Binner

Westfields were well beaten in the Hellenic League Cup 3rd Round when they visited Hellenic League Division One Leaders Droitwich Spa and went down 2-0.

Westfields had several good chances in an end to end first half but Ben Brooks and Dan Stoneman did not make the best of their opportunities and at the other end Westfields teenage keeper Shay Sterry made 2 brilliant saves as the sides went in goalless at the break.

After the interval Westfields should have taken the lead but Dan Stoneman smashed his shot against the bar when he was through on goal.

Droitwich opened the scoring when striker Alex Dugmore turned smartly in the Westfields penalty area to beat Shay Sterry with a low drive.

Westfields hit back and forced 4 corners but it was the home side who broke away to score on the counter attack when Nathan Binner blasted the ball home from close range to put Droitwich 2-0 ahead.

Westfields tried hard to get back in the game and Owen Taylor had a shot brilliantly saved by the Droitwich keeper then Ben Brooks had a shot saved and Nathan Davies had a shot blocked by ex Westfields defender Jay Saunston.

Westfields were lucky not to concede another goal late on when Sterry saved brilliantly as Droitwich finished the stronger side to go through to the quarter finals of the Hellenic League Cup.

This Saturday Westfields are at home to Worcester Raiders Kick off 3pm at allpay.park.
and the following Tuesday play Ludlow Town at Home in The Hellenic Floodlit Cup 3rd Round
