WESTFIELDS BEATEN HEAVILY AWAY AT CORSHAM
Westfields slumped to their second consecutive league defeat when they were beaten heavily 5-0 away at Corsham on Saturday when they failed to contend with a hard-working home side who had long-throw specialist Nathan Davis very instrumental in the goals.
Westfields also suffered a sending-off to central defender Ben Vine when the score was at 2-0 in Corsham’s favour and after that the floodgates opened as the Corsham side ripped opened the Westfields defence.
Westfields got off to a poor start when Corsham scored in the first minute through Niekell Plummer who scored with an acrobatic overhead kick to put the home side ahead with only 60 seconds on the clock.
Westfields hit back immediately and Dan Stoneman was not far away with a crisp shot but it was the home side who increased the lead in the 18th minute when Westfields failed to deal with a long throw from Nathan Davis and the ball was headed home at the far post by Callum Demkiv to give the home side a dream 2-0 start.
Westfields failed really to impress against the big strong Corsham defence and after the interval further disappointment occurred when Ben Vine was sent off, having fouled when he was the last man in the defence as Corsham burst through.
Down to 10 men it was always going to be a hard task and the home side went 3-0 up when Niekell Plummer scored his second goal of the game to put Corsham into a commanding lead.
Corsham then sent on their substitutes and within only a few minutes substitute Matt Groves increased the lead to 4-0 before Westfields came back with an opportunity which Joe Davies got in a header which was easily saved.
It was Corsham who were really calling the tune and they took their score to 5 in the dying minutes when substitute Matt Groves scored his second goal of the game when he broke away to smash the ball past Matt Apperley in the Westfields goal.
This was one of Westfields’ heaviest defeats in the Hellenic League and they will be looking to bounce back on Saturday when they travel to Chipping Sodbury, kick-off 3pm.
