Chipping Sodbury 0
Westfields 3 – Edwards, Stoneman, Davies
Westfields back to Winning Ways
Westfields returned to winning ways in the Hellenic League Premier Division when they travelled to Chipping Sodbury and recorded a fine 3-0 away win.
This was a welcome 3 points after 2 consecutive league defeats and they were boosted by the return of Joel Edwards at the heart of the defence and the former Hereford FC skipper marked his return with a goal.
In fact it was Edwards who broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when he rose above the Chipping Sodbury defence to head home a Dan Stoneman Corner to give Westfields the lead.
Westfields almost extended the lead before the break when a Matt MacDonald shot was well saved by the home keeper. Just before the interval, Chipping Sodbury were reduced to 10 men when Kean Ashwood was red carded following a foul on MacDonald, then foul language to the match referee.
After the break Westfields stepped up the pressure and after a number of fine saves by the home keeper Westfields extended their leader when Dan Stoneman seized on a mistake by the keeper to race clear and hammer the ball into an empty net to put Westfields 2-0 ahead.
Chipping Sodbury did come back into the game but they found Joel Edwards and Joe Davies in top form at the heart of the defence.
Westfields wrapped up the game with a lovely 3rd goal when Josh Hunt floated in a Perfect cross and Steve Davies rose to head home a firm header to put Westfields 3-0 in front. Westfields almost made it 4 in the dying minutes when Morgan Evans threaded a ball through to substitute Rory Thompson who’s first time shot was well saved by the home keeper.
Westfields deserved their 10th league win of the season.
Next Saturday they are on the road again when they travel to Bradford Town for another league game.
