Recap

Brixham AFC 1 – Gates
Westfields 3 – Gittoes, o.g., Griffiths

Westfields travelled to Devon for their 5th pre season friendly and faced a lively Brixham side.

The game started at a high pace and Brixham had a good effort on goal right from the kick off.

It was 7 minutes into the game before Westfields had their first opportunity with Stoneman shooting just wide of the upright.

Brixham then enjoyed the best of the chances with some good shots at the Fields goal and it took a good save from Matt Apperley to prevent them taking the lead when he flicked a good effort onto the bar and Brixham followed up only for the woodwork to deny them again.

On 17 minutes Apperley was only able to pat away an aerial ball whilst under pressure from the Brixham forward, and when both players ended up in a heap on the ground Appreley was alleged to have prevented the forward from getting back up and a penalty was awarded which Gates despatched confidently to put Brixham 1-0 up.

Westfields were then able to enjoy good periods of play with Stoneman and Davies orchestrating the play.

A good firm header by Gittoes from a Stoneman corner was just wide of the mark and then moments later a good strike by Morris was well saved by the home keeper.

The second half started much the way the first had finished with Westfields enjoying the majority of the play and creating more chances.

Phil Glover then made some changes with Wakeley coming on to replace Pitman, Havard for Apperley and Marsh for Vines and it was Wakeley that made an immediate impression with a good header well saved.

It was on the hour mark when Westfields found the equaliser, a free kick was played down the line to Stoneman who delivered a perfect cross to the far post for Gittoes to do the honours with a good solid strikers header.

Westfields then really started to apply pressure on the Brixham goal with Gittoes looking lively and having a shot well saved. The pressure prooved too much for Brixham and on 75 minutes a defender was unable to clear a low ball and converted into his own goal.

A minute later a ball over the top from Westfields found Sam Griffiths free to run at the Brixham goal and the youngster finished calmly to put Westfields 3-1 up.

With no further goals the game ended 1-3 and Westfields had enjoyed another good solid workout ahead of the new season.
