WESTFIELDS BEATEN AT HOME

Westfields failed to move up into the top 6 in the Hellenic League Premier Division when they were surprisingly beaten 1-0 at home by visiting Tuffley Rovers last night.

Westfields enjoyed long periods of dominance in the game but failed to convert their chances and could not at times break down a resolute visitors’ defence in which goalkeeper Jack Copland was outstanding for Tuffley Rovers.

Westfields enjoyed the better of the opening period but when chances fell to Dan Stoneman, Josh Hunt and Richards Greaves all were either well saved by the visitors’ keeper or were wide of the target.

After a goal-less first half Westfields looked to be heading for a goal-less draw as they could not convert their chances after again dominance in the second period and against the run of play and in a breakaway, Tuffley did their smash and grab with a superb goal from Jamal Lawrence who broke away and beat Ian Havard with a rising shot from an acute angle.

Westfields then threw everything forward in the last 5 minutes to try and rescue a point but once again they were thwarted by some poor finishing, and excellent defending by Tuffley Rovers.

Westfields now visit Corsham Town on Saturday, kick-off 3pm, and next Tuesday host league leaders Cribbs at allpay.park, kick-off 7.45pm.
